While the world as a whole is working on its collective response to the COVID-19 crisis, we at Pickleball Channel have been thinking about how our pickleball community can respond to these present conditions. We all know that pickleball is more than a sport…it is a community, and while the coronavirus makes the sport part of this difficult, we can and should keep up with the community part of pickleball. This is why we at Pickleball Channel will be working from this big idea for the duration of this unique period: Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected.
First, Let’s Be Safe. Follow the guidelines set up by local and federal authorities. We won’t be focusing on this too much because that is the purview of the local and national authorities. We just want to encourage everyone to take this seriously and use your best judgement in the following weeks.
Second, Stay Healthy. Let’s keep physically healthy by keeping physically active. Go on walks, do some exercises, and loosen up those muscles with some stretches. We will bring you some content to help facilitate these physical activities. We are creating content like ‘pickleball practice tips you can do at home’, ‘exercise ideas for pickleball players’, and some fun challenges. The other part of staying healthy is staying mentally healthy. We want to encourage you to protect your mental health by doing things like: taking a break from the news, reading a fun book, maybe even watching some Pickleball Channel.
Finally, Let’s Stay Connected. For many pickleball players, pickleball is a large part of their social and active life. Keep in mind that the majority of pickleball players are 50+, so these ‘shelter at home’ orders can impact them the most. Let’s also remember that many people who make up the backbone of the pickleball community are losing income and security. So let’s stay connected through these tough times. Think of your friends and send them a message. The community of pickleball players is not something we want to lose just because we can’t see each other on the court for a while.
In fact, hop on your cell phone right now and video a quick message to your pickleball partner, or your local club, or just a good pickleball friend telling them what’s great about them. Then post it to Facebook or YouTube and either name it, or use the hashtag, #PickleballChannelCommunityChallenge, and let us help share that message.
We have always been a channel dedicated to pickleball and the pickleball community. While we will be bringing you news connected to pickleball and COVID-19, we will also be creating content that will be fun and interesting and hopefully give you a break from this situation.
So remember: Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, and Stay Connected. We’ll be seeing you soon.
What I want to know is how you still have a nice hair cut??? lol
